Challenges
The two challenges I did was the black out poem that read "Although their time had question, their direction is definite." I also did a sketch of the word "Wet" and put water droplets on the letters and made it look like they were being dropped in water.

Final Project Ideas
For my final project I am thinking about breaking colored glass bottles or glass in general and then put the pieces together to spell out a word or phrase. The word I was thinking about was "Shattered" but I think I might do some kind of saying.  I'm still not sure what I will be gluing the glass on, but I'm getting there.

Book Carving - Along For The Ride...

For my final project in Art 2, our class did book carvings.  When I heard we were doing it I was so excited because I had never seen anything like it.  We were given multiple themes that we could base our project off of and mine was "Along For The Ride."  My dream has always been to travel the world so of course I had to carve a map of the world and pin point where I wanted to visit.  Of course, there is more places that I want to go to but it just gives an idea of all the places that are tourist sites and popular to visit.  Oh, and trust me, it looks easier than it was.  For this project you had to have a clear idea of what you wanted to do because that is what you would be carving into each layer of pages.  You needed to number all the different layers you wanted and cut them out in a specific order.  This project also tested your patience.  Sometimes something wouldn't go as planned and you just needed to deal and figure out how you can make it better.  A lot of the times the layers wouldn't come completely out after you cut them so they would rip pages and you would have to start all over.  You just had to take time and figure out what you could do to fix if before making it worse.  I decided to do each continent a different color. Greenland isn't a continent I just wanted to make it different, so ignore that. Otherwise, everything is a different color which makes it stand out more.  I loved this project and I think I did a pretty good job on it, at least the best I could do.  the continents look like continents and overall it looks like a map so I say this was a pretty good success especially for my last project of Art 2.  You can bet I'll be doing more projects at home next semester when I don't have an art class at school.

Amusement

For our project my class had to show amusement.  I thought about what amuses me and it was people.  Different people, all their likes and dislikes, where they came from, who they are.  It amuses me.  So what I did for the subject matter was take pictures of different people.  Some are my family members and friends, and some are strangers.  Then, I cut strips from each persons face and put them together to make one.  It worked perfectly. Everyone I showed this to thought it was just one person that I cut up into different pieces, but no, it's mutliple people. The mixed media I used was tissue paper, different clippings from magazines, and paint.  I think my project worked out really well.  It looks faded and I think it sort-of meshes together.  The lessons that we did in class helped me figure out what I wanted to do for my final.  It let me make mistakes and try different things.  I found out new techniques I could use.  A problem that I had was putting on the layers.  I was too afraid of covering things up and stacking on to the layers.  I just had to stop thinking so much and let loose. The colors started blending in and looking better.  I as very happy with the final product, and I had fun doing it.

Glue Portrait

For my portrait I chose to do a picture of me and my older brother, Philip.  Philip and I are very close and he is going to college next year, so I decided to make something for him maybe to take with him to college.  When I was brainstorming my first idea was glue.  I loved the idea of the texture that glue would leave on whatever I did my piece on, in this case, wood.  I bought glue bottles and filled half with glue and then put whatever paint color I wanted, so that it would have a color.  When I started, I didn't know how the glue would come out.  It could totally absorb in the wood or get washed out due to the paint that I added.  I also took a risk with the colors.  I didn't really know what colors would look good, but I stuck to my gut the whole time.  When the glue dried, some spots would be gone like you see in the upper right hand corner in purple.  Instead of going over it again, I left it.  I liked the look of having bare parts and thought it showed how not all artwork is going to look perfect, or the way you want it to look.  You just have to embrace it.  I am very happy with my piece and I hope Philip likes it as well.

Eggs- Repetition

This project was very difficult for me.  I had artist block and I couldn't think of anything!  I changed my idea about four times but I finally decided on an egg.  I thought it would be cool to have the egg look like it was splattered on the paper from the inside and then have an egg carton with different eggs in the background.  This idea wasn't really outside the box and I definitely played it safe.  My repetition in this artwork was the eggs and the floor boards.  I had to have a central point on the horizon that all the lines were facing, and then all the eggs with different colors.  I chose to do watercolor because I had never done it before.  In Art 1 I did acrylic paint and it was fun, but I wanted to try something new.  The mini lessons helped me realize which painting technique I wanted to do, but also how to do it the correct way.  In all honesty this wasn't my favorite project but my next piece is going to be better!

Lime

 

When I was little, I had a Nintendo game where I could draw things.  For some reason I chose a lime and I thought it would be cool to draw it now that I have more art skills.  A lime would be a perfect up close and personal because of the way the different colors in the lime are. I showed emphasis by the colors in the lime.  I put white on the outside then blended yellow and types of greens with the darkest on the inside.  At first I chose to do chalk but when I blended it didn't look the way I wanted.  I then changed to color pencil and it turned out better.  It was easier to blend when layering the different colors.  I took a risk with the background.  I tried finding colors that would compliment the lime green and wasn't sure if was going to turn out the way it did.  I think it came out pretty good. The only thing I would change is the red background. I would've wanted it darker but sometimes you just need to learn to accept your artwork.  You'll always think there needs to be changes you just need to learn to love it no matter what.

What's The Point?

What's The Point?

When my class was brainstorming for 'What's The Point' my two best ideas were a dart and a rose.  I thought of a rose because of the thorns on the stem but I didn't think I could go as far as I could if I chose a dart.  I thought it would be cool if i could make the dart look like it's coming out of the paper like someone was actually throwing it at a dark board.  I started printing out references to help me visualize it, and it came out like this!  I drew it while thinking of a light source.  Then, I imagined which parts of the dart would be dark and which would be light and started shading.  I chose to use a pencil to draw because I thought a pen was too hard.  I didn't like how scrappy the pen looked and I already have experience using a pencil.  Charcoal was way too messy for my liking and too much blending had to be done.  I basically just outlined the shape of the dart board (which doesn't look as good as it should) and the dart and started shading from there. I didn't take as many risks with this piece because it's my first drawing coming back in from summer break and I wanted to make sure I still knew the skills I learned last year, in Art 1.  Hope you enjoyed it!
